The story behind the last Medal of Honor games

Bellow is the story behind the last Medal of Honor from an article written in 2014 by the MOH-France team.

It's not the most recent news, but it give a good idea of what went wrong with the latest games in the franchise. I wanted to share that story, because I think it's important to let everyone know of what happened behind the scene. Here is the article translated into English bellow:

"Few weeks ago [2014], a rumor floated on the VK social network informing the arrival of the next Medal of Honor in 2015. Unfortunately, Electronic Arts conference at E3 was sterile on the Medal of Honor series. The rumor was lost and the story behind the failure of EA and Medal of Honor took place.

We all know, Danger Close is now known as DICE Los Angeles. The developers in this team are responsible for maintaining Battlefield 4 alive by concocting various patches, due to an unfinished game, and the development of DLC. IF you have the latest BF4 DLC, Dragon’s Teeth, you’ll find some recycled things from…

EA to shutdown all Medal of Honor servers on February 16th, 2023

After many long years of uncertainty about the Medal of Honor franchise, it’s with great sadness that we learned that EA announced on December 1st that all Medal of Honor titles will have their servers shutdown on February 16th, 2023 on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC.

That’s include:

  • Medal of Honor Airborne
  • Medal of Honor (2010)
  • Medal of Honor Warfighter

It’s not really a surprise for the fans of the franchise who were desperate about getting a new game or getting the latest Medal of Honor backward compatible or remastered on the newer platforms. There is a reason those games weren’t getting a lot of attention. The lack of support from EA in the early days by shutting down the development studio and the lack of customer support didn’t help, but those games were not accessible to the new generation of gamers playing on the latest platforms.

Rest in peace Medal of Honor, you will never be forgotten.

Electronic Arts Takes Medal of Honor Out of Its Planned Shooter Timeline Rotation

A few months back, Electronic Arts announced that they would be having a rotation of Battlefield in one year and Medal of Honor the next.

Just now, EA COO (Chief Operating Officer) Peter Moore has confirmed that the Medal of Honor franchise has been taken out of this rotation, mostly due to the poor critical (review scores) and commercial (sales figures) reception of Medal of Honor: Warfighter.

"We struggled with two challenges: the slowdown that impacted the entire sector and poor critical and commercial reception for Medal of Honor Warfighter," said Moore, "Medal of Honor was an obvious miss. The game was solid, but the focus on combat authenticity did not resonate with consumers."

This may mean that the only first-person shooters we'll get for the time being are from the Battlefield series, unless another FPS is put into this rotation to fill the empty slot created by this change-up.

And it would also mean that we may not see another Medal of Honor game for a few years or so until later in…

7 Navy SEALs To Be Disciplined For Helping With The Development Of Medal Of Honor: Warfighter

Source: http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-18563_162-57547417/7-navy-seals-disciplined-for-role-with-video-game/

CBS News has reported (on November 8, 2012 6:44 PM) that seven active members of SEAL Team Six have received letters of reprimand for giving out "classified" info to Danger Close as they were working on Medal of Honor: Warfighter and for violating the unwritten code that SEALs are "silent warriors who shun the spotlight".

Since the Osama Bin Laden raid back in May of 2011, the SEALs have been "buried in an avalanche of publicity" as they have been featured in films such as Act of Valor and the upcoming Zero Dark Thirty.

Four other members who also helped in the development of the game, that have since transferred out of SEAL Team Six, are also being investigated.

For the seven members, this means that their pay has been cut in half for two months and that their chances of promotion have been "killed".

Radio Warfighter August 1st

On August 1 the medalofhonor youtube page uploaded a trailer for Warfighters single-player centering around our friendly protagonist Preacher.

The trailer begins with Preacher conversing with an unknown woman, possibly Lena via phone at a train station when a suicide bomber gets spotted and Preacher runs towards him, but he detonates and throws Preacher back.

Preacher wakes up by Mother and is revealed to have the first name of Tom. Voices of Lena and Preachers daughter are heard.

Following scenes show multiple operations, such as a freefall out of a helicopter, AH-6 Little Bird helicopters flying with soldiers to an unknown destination, Voodoo slamming a hostage into the ground for resisting, a funeral service for an unknown person from the armed services, Voodoo and another Task Force member in a streetway when the other Task Force member gets hit by a car.

Preacher then lays there in the hospital, when he sees Lena and his daughter coming to visit him.

Medal of Honor Warfighter reveal trailer released

Yesterday, the first trailer for Medal of Honor: Warfighter was released.

The trailer confirms various rumors that had been swirling around prior to release; there are to be 12 playable factions in multiplayer, and in various locales, including the Philippines (which itself was confirmed during the GDC "eyes-only" demo).

Below is a short analysis of the game's trailer.

  • 1 Factions
  • 2 Weapons
  • 3 Vehicles
  • 4 Locations
  • 5 Gameplay

According to various sources, including the official website, the game will feature not only American Tier 1 units, but also the German GSG9, Polish, Norwegian, Philippino, Canadian, Australian, and other international units.

  • Navy SEALs (Task force Mako)
  • Delta Force (SFOD-D)
  • GSG 9
  • KSK

  • JTF2
  • FSK and HJK (both are Norwegian Special Forces, though they're mentioned at the same time, so it is unknown if they …

Medal of Honor: Warfighter

According to the April issue (on shelves March 6th) of Official Xbox Magazine, the sequel to 2010's game is Medal of Honor: Warfighter, confirmed with what could be taken as the game's cover art on it's Official Website. It was announced that the game would get an official reveal at the Game Developer's Conference in March (and hopefully get a beta to top it all off?)

The multiplayer aspect will be developed in-house by Danger Close, but will use DICE's Frostbite 2.0, despite what was intially reported.

The story will follow a Tier 1 Operators (unconfirmed if they will be Wolfpack, Neptune or a "New Unit" as seen in the Battlefield 3 insert).

I am a huge fan of Medal of Honor, old AND new, so I'll keep you updated in the coming weeks.

Medal of Honor 2010 Sequel to be Revealed at GDC

Outside of the Battlefield 3 box, and a new Blog Series not much has been heard about the Next Medal of Honor. However just today, Attack of The Fanboy got wind of news of a reveal for the long rumored, now confirmed sequel. Despite minor controversyand criticisms, it looks like EA will go ahead with the sequel. On a side note, with many "fans" disliking Medal of Honor 2010's use of D.I.C.E's Frostbite 1.5 Game Engine, it is suggested that Danger Close will instead develop their own engine for the game.

The reveal is to take place at the annual Game Developers Conference in San Francisco, California. The Conference itself will be March 5th-9th, with the Expo on the 7th-9th. Hopefully, EA will Livestream the Event as they did with Gamescom last year in Germany with demos for Mass Effect 3 and Battlefield 3.

Stop Online Censorship

In accordance with our friends over at the Community Wikia, and as founder of this Wiki, I have decided to change the main banner of the Medal of Honor Wiki to reflect an anti-SOPA/PIPA stance. From 9PM-9PM PST (12AM-12AM EST) on Wednesday January 18th, a high-intensity campaign against this legislation will takeover all Wikis. For the first time you visit this Wiki in your browser, an anti-SOPA/PIPA banner will be visible and the Wiki will be reverted to a default style. Once you advance further into the Wiki, the normal look of the Wiki will change back over. Wikipedia and Reddit will be blacking out completely on January 18th. The Stop Online Censorship tag on our banner will remain until the legislation is resolved. Because of our relative lack of activity, we will not go the route of the Call of Duty Wiki and black out completely, but the message should be clear.

If you are a citizen of the United States, I would highly recommend that you contact your Congressman or Senator in reg…

Medal of Honor 2012

Well if you bought BF3 today and opened it up, on the back of the online pass is -- what else? -- a teaser for the second modern Medal of Honor game. According to an article done on EuroGamer back in June (which I, shockingly enough, missed), MoH and BF are going to alternate each year -- so MoH2010 > BF3 > MoH2012 > BF(BC3/2143/1944/V2) > MoH2013, and onwards. The Official MoH website has been updated with two new blogs. One is from Greg Goodrich, regarding Medal of Honor 2012.

The above quote pretty much sums up everything. What we now know about MoH2012 is that it'll focus around four units, much like MoH2010 -- but the first patch is different from any that was found in MoH2010. It looks almost like a cheshire cat grin.

The second post regards the unit patches (actually called morale patches) found in MoH2010, and what they mean.

Medal of Honor: Frontline available for download on the PlayStation store

Well, it's been far too long since I've been able to do a proper news blog, but here it goes: the HD remastered Medal of Honor: Frontline has been made available for download on the PlayStation store for 15 USD. The remastered version of MoHF has several changes that were made to it. The primary selling point is its redone textures, but the remastered game also comes with several other features, inlcuding ironsights and a more modern control scheme (though the old-school control scheme is still available).

I would be very surprised if they weren't working on Medal of Honor 2011 or 2012. Hopefully this time they will r-use their assets instead of restarting. And God, don't let DICE handle the multi!!!

Another gametype announced!

On November 2, Clean Sweep won't be the only gametype released -- DICE have decided to release another gamemode on the same day, called Hot Zone, which will cost 9.99 on the PSN/Steam network or 800MS points for Xbox Live. The description of Hot Zone is this: a king-of-the-hill style domination gamemode where two teams fight to take and control a single, central objective. Whoever holds it the longest wins. It also features two additional maps and two rehashed maps -- bringing the grand-total to 8 additional maps. I dunno about you guys, but I cannot fucking wait.

Update from Heatedpete:

Just to say, the Hot Zone game mode may be released as part of a deal using the EA Gunclub. No deal/information has been released as of yet, but it may arrive in the near future.

Gametype "Clean Sweep" and two new maps coming soon!

On November 2, expect a new gametype called Clean sweep to be released, along with two new maps (Khyler caves and Bagram hangar). It's a last-man-standing type game, essentially a team deathmatch with no respawning. This'll add about another 10 hours of playtime to my account, because I love this kind of gameplay. Afterwards, though, I'll likely spend most of my time playing New Vegas.

Medal of Honor: Frontline remastered footage released.

As I was surfing the web today, I came along this:

So in case you yunguns don't know, the new Medal of Honor is not the first one. This game, Medal of Honor: Frontline is arguably the best MoH for consoles to be released yet. Essentially, it was like Allied Assault, but for the PS2. It has always been my second favorite game in the series, after Allied Assault. In addition:

Confirmation that the Jimmy Patterson in the Leave a Message trailer is in fact the grandson of James Steven Patterson. Dear God, let Tuesday come faster, because I cannot wait any longer. The epicness of this game is too much to keep away!

I don't get why the screen shifts over to the right. It just happens, and I can't do jack about it. Sorry.

Entire Medal of Honor soundtrack now available for purchase on Itunes.

EA has released the entire MoH soundtrack on Itunes -- and let me tell you, it is very different from past titles' soundtracks. It is available for just 5.99 USD for the album, and 0.99 USD per song.

The new wikia layout is now available!

Wikia, after some server problems earlier this afternoon, has released the new layout for all wikis. It can be enabled in the preferences, although it will still be possible to use Monaco until the 3rd. What does this mean to us? Well most things will remain the same. However, it will now be easier to do certain things with the wiki, such as designing a custom look. (Which we have already done). In addition, some of our current coding, such as Common.JS and Monaco.css are not compatible with the new look. Feel free to give feedback here, but remember that we cannot change anything about the current schedule.

"Dusty" has been made an available character for "Mysims"

I've never played the game, but apparently our own Dusty is now available for purchase as a Mysims character for EA's MySims Sky Heroes. Make of this what you will; I have never played the game and honestly don't intend to, but hey. talk about slow news...

A message from the Exec Producer of Medal of Honor.

Well, that's that, I suppose. It's a valid move, changing the name. It won't have a direct effect on the game, but of course, we have to go and rewrite all our articles about them.

MOH exclusives

Copied directly from their blog, they have explained the exclusives that come with the video game:

The Limited Edition of Medal of Honor comes with an exclusive coalition Spec Ops class skin, access to the MP7 SMG, the TOZ194 shotgun, the 870MCS shotgun, and an invitation to the Battlefield 3 beta. As an exclusive to PS3 owners, Medal of Honor: LE also comes bundled with a re-mastered version of Medal of Honor Frontline. If you’ve already pre-ordered the game and you’re not sure about your status, fear not; every copy of Medal of Honor that is pre-ordered is automatically upgraded to the Limited Edition, regardless of platform of where you bought it.

For those who have pre-ordered at GameStop, you’ll receive the M60 machine gun (the most elite Tier 1 weapon in the game) for multiplayer, and you’ll also be Tier 1 on day 1. When you pre-order Medal of Honor from GameStop, you will receive instant Tier 1 Operator status for the assault class, complete with a new skin in multiplayer, giving…

New wikia look to go live next month.

Well if you didn't already know, Wikia is getting a makeover. Now, I personally don't like it. I like the Monaco skin better, and I know it'll be hell to make Oasis (the name of the new skin) fit with the series. I personally feel Oasis is poorly laid-out and hard to use.

It goes live on the 20th next month, and the option to use Monaco will be removed on the 3rd of November. It's not our choice, we don't have a say in the matter, but that's wikia's plan, and they're going to stick to it. Perhaps by release, it'll be made to look and work a bit better, but that's a longshot.

Open PC Beta on October 4th, and new multiplayer mode.

As can be seen at the official site, there is a new Medal of Honor experience video, this time for multiplayer.

Now, before the video begins, there is a message that comes up. It states, "Play the PC open beta on October 4 at medalofhonor.com". What does this mean to us? A second beta? Kind of unusual to have a closed beta followed by an open beta ten days before release.

PC beta info here.

The video itself is much more cinematic than the previous vids.

Now, the actual video shows us that there will be a new multiplayer mode: Objective Raid. Attackers need to destroy an objective and the defenders, of course, defend. Unusually, the attackers this time are the Taliban. There will be a machinegun turret (simply labeled "Machinegun" in the killfeed) that looks remarkably similar to the HMGs in BC2. And, perhaps, they've added a cover system? Maybe it's just my imagination (It could just be a cutscene), but at 1:00, there's a Talib who leans out from cover and takes a few shots at the enemy. …

Servers confirmed. But guess what? They'll be having console servers, too.

As something I've only seen before with Killzone 2, there will be dedicated servers, for consoles. The difference? The servers this time are third-party servers instead of being based on one particular console. What does this mean for concsole players? Of course, it means that gameplay will have a lot less lag, there will be no 'host migration' or anything of the sort. All in all, this is a good move -- this will be the first 'mainstream' game to feature dedicated servers on consoles.

In a semi-unrelated point, there are some previews of the game. Now we know the names of three singleplayer levels. Glean what you will from this.

Exclusive IGN preview of MOH 2010

IGN has released an exclusive preview of the new Medal of Honor game, and it goes into some nice details.

Most notable features are:

  • Leaning returns in the singleplayer.
  • Mission briefings in between each level. Here's hoping it will be like the Airborne briefings.
  • It's possible to ask friendly AI for mags.
  • It's possible to slide while running.
  • The combat shown seems to be the same from the Leave a Message trailer. The other soldiers make references to the D-Day landings, which is a reference to Jimmy Patterson's landing in Medal of Honor: Frontline.
  • The chopper shown in the Gunfighters preview is on rails. It also flows from the other mission, where the character gets bogged down by enemy fire. That's why they were blowing up that village.
  • There's an amount of environmental destructability with the chopper.
  • Deuce and Dusty are introduced in the level afterwards. The guy who's talking in the background is Dusty, the guy with the beard.
  • After going through the HVT and Fallen Angel trailers about a …

Game Pulled From Military Bases

Military personnel looking to pick up Medal of Honor this October will have to do so off-site. The Army and Air Force Exchange Services has announced that the game will not be stocked in any on-base GameStop or other post exchange in U.S. military bases worldwide. The reason is because of the inclusion of Taliban fighters in the game's multiplayer, naturally.

The commanding general of the Army and Air Force Exchange Services explained that this is done out of respect for the men and women who have fought against Taliban insurgents.
