M1 carbine is a weapon featured in the Medal of Honor series, appeared in Medal of Honor: Pacific Assault.

M1 Carbine was developed by 'Carbine' Williams, a former prison inmate with a talent in firearms design. Initially it was intended to replace M1911 .45 pistols as a new self defense weapon for officers, rear-echelon troops and other support personnel with less combat training on average, as pistols are difficult to master. M1 Carbine as the result soon proved exceeding expectations, being a weapon easier to use yet more powerful than a pistol. M1 Carbine's property of lightweight, high reliability and good sustained fire was seen as desirable to front line assault troops such as the Airborne, and army special forces.

The Carbine was chambered in a purpose designed light .30 Caliber cartridge, essentially a slightly-enhanced pistol round, and as such, is much less powerful than standard rifle rounds like the .30-06 Springfield.

Medal of Honor: Pacific Assault[]

M1 Carbine in Pacific Assault is the standard M1 version with wooden stock. The M1 Carbine is a common sight amongst friendlies and can be used throughout the campaign. Between the two weapons in American semi-automatic rifle class, the other being M1 Garand, M1 Carbine has a near-doubling magazine size (15 vs 8) and can be reloaded at any time, although it is weaker in damage and lacks the one-hit-kill capable bayonet of the Garand. The M1 Carbine best used in short to medium ranges.

Trivia[]

  • In the single-player campaign of Pacific Assault, M1 Carbine is equipped by more USMC NPCs than any other American weapon, which is somewhat historically inaccurate as M1 Carbine was primarly used by officers and rear echelon troops.
  • Another inaccuracy happens during the Pearl Harbor mission in which a lot of sailors and Navy personnel can be seen using M1 Carbines to hold-off the Japanese attack. The attack took place on December 7th, 1941. but the M1 Carbine was not issed to troops until mid-1942.
  • In Airborne, diagram of the M1A1 can be seen on certain weapon upgrade interface. This, along with the fact that M1 Carbine's holster was seen on all airborne models, indicates the weapon was likely considered during development but was cut from the final release.
