Mission Briefing

Attack Impenetrable Fort Schmerzen is the fourth mission in Medal of Honor. The mission is divided into three levels: The Siegfried Forest, Officer's Quarters, and Mustard Gas Production.

Background[]

The German Siegfried Line has finally been breached by the allies. One thing that baffles Allied Intelligence is that the Germans sending men and resources into a fortress along the Siegfried Line, Fort Schmerzen. This confuses the Allies because they can easily bypass the fortress, but they don't know something terrible is being developed inside Schmerzen. Patterson is asked to go into the Fort and find out what is going on. At the forest surrounding Fort Schmerzen Patterson finds a Ju-87 Stuka and destroys it. In the forest, Patterson fights his way through bunkers and across tank obstacles and finally enters Fort Schmerzen. Inside the Fort Patterson finds orders that designate Fort Schmerzen a facility to produce chemical weapons and have the Ju-87 Stuka drop its mustard gas onto the advancing allies. After finding this out Patterson dons a gas mask and enters the chemical weapons facility. There, he opens all the valves and unleashes the poisons chemicals into the Fortress air. After opening the last vent, Patterson finds an exit and escapes Fort Schmerzen.

Briefing[]

This is the latest reconnaissance from the Siegfried Line. Now that Montgomery's attempt on a shortcut has failed, we're gonna have to get through Germany the hard way.

This is the Moselle River near Metz and this is Fort Schmerzen, which is proven to be one tough nut to crack. Thick concrete walls, artillery, machine-gun emplacements, Dragon's Teeth; it's a briar patch of German defenses. Now what you see in the recon is only a tip of the iceberg. These forts go incredibly deep, sometimes four or five levels down into the earth. They're completely self-sustaining, they have their own commander control centers, radio rooms, supply bays, dormitories and kitchens. Jerry can stay down there for weeks, even months at a time. And of all these fortifications, Schmerzen is the biggest of a lot. While we've been able to knock out some of the smaller forts, Schmerzen has remained impenetrable. They keep pouring resources of men and equipment into it, even though it doesn't make much tactical sense now that we can effectively flank the position. Unless that is, something sinister is going on down there that we don't know about and that is what is scaring us.

I'll be honest with you, son. You're not the first agent we tried to send in there, but it's imperative that we find out what the Germans are up to, so that's why I've personally assigned you this mission. The Nazis are hiding something deep inside Fort Schmerzen and my gut tells me it's something bad.

Trivia[]

  • During the explanation of Fort Schmerzen location, there's two historical weapon usage error in the map:
    • The FG42 incorrectly used for observation watchtower; none of them were designed to deployed and issued for regular troops to watch a sector.
    • Schmerzen Fort has .50 cal bunker to guard the sector, while in reality there is no .50 cal was used to guard the perimeter; while there was a German equivalent of M2 .50 cal, the MG 131 which sports 13x81mm, they were designed exclusively for aircraft and not for ground use. Unless if they captured several M2HB, either MG42 and MG34 is the correct choice as they historically used to protect sector and proved effective.
  • This is chronologically the first mission to take place after the events of Medal of Honor: Frontline which were two months after the events of Stealing the Show. According to the post-mission briefing at the end of Frontline, Patterson was on leave while he waited for his next assignment which was Fort Schmerzen.
